Stone Lithographs

ARTIST AND MODEL, SL2 NEIGHBOURS, SL3 RYE AUCTION, SL4 THE PARTY are four black and white images I produced during our time in Rye and Hastings. They are quite unusual because I do not usually produce images of figures. The first is sardonic look at an iconographic image that most artists draw or paint at some time. The model, Ella, is a bright little girl (no longer so little), and the daughter of our friends Tom and Cath. ‘Neighbours’ shows the regular morning view from our front door in Old Town Hastings, when the neighbours would pass the time of day. Rye Auction used to be held weekly, and everyone in the area knows auctioneer Jim. ‘The Party shows Nicky, ‘top left’ at an evening ‘do’ in Hastings. The people of Old Town are amongst the friendliest anywhere we have lived.

ROCK A NORE (RED LINE), and ROCK A NORE (BLACK LINE), are two printings of a Hastings image that I thoroughly enjoyed composing and printing. They marked my return to Stone Lithography after more than fifty years. (the first stone Litho I drew up on the stone cracked into two pieces whilst on its journey to the press, and never got printed.

SL6 - ROCK A NORE (BLACK LINE),
SL5 ROCK A NORE (RED LINE), and SL6 ROCK A NORE (BLACK LINE), are two printings of a Hastings image that I thoroughly enjoyed composing and printing. BRIGHTON BEACH was produced after the previous image of Hastings, but as can be seen, in a very similar vein. If you look closely you will see that the Brighton boats are somewhat different from their neighbours at Hastings. The Brighton ‘Hog Boat’ is so named because she sits on the shingle like a sow taking a rest.
