TREES (MONKS HAVEN) shows the walled garden of the old monastery of St. Ishmaels in South Pembrokeshire. It was a favourite haunt of artist Graham Sutherland, one of my heroes. We retraced his footsteps many times, and this particular place (near Saint Ishmaels, makes such journeys very worthwhile. When Graham painted the walled garden shown here, there was a lintel over the opening.

OLD FISHING BOATS are favourite subjects of mine. The boat on the left of the line is my old Hastings fishing boat, ‘the Fairlight Maid’, built in 1947 by Lower’s of Newhaven. She is still in Hastings with our friends Andy and Cherie, but is no longer seaworthy. At 16foot, she was one of the smallest fishing boats used in the time of sail, and was known as a ‘punt’.
