PL01 BEACHED LUGGERS DRYING THEIR SAILS

PL01 - BEACHED LUGGERS DRYING THEIR SAILS

BEACHED LUGGERS DRYING THEIR SAILS shows the sea-front buildings at Hastings, with little ‘single-pole luggers’ sitting on the hard. The sails would be raised to dry, otherwise, if they were stowed away, they would rot because of the salt water. (The same was true of the nets, so they were hung to dry in the ‘net shops’ with widows open for the wind to blow through.)

PL02 EAST HILL FROM THE SEA

PL02 - EAST HILL FROM THE SEA

EAST HILL FROM THE SEA & OLD TOWN HASTINGS are two square images close to my heart. They were not produced to be a pair, but both use ‘reverse imagery’, so that the variable thickness line is white against the terracotta background. Both images clearly show the famous Hastings net shops, mentioned above.

Size: 42x42cm   Price = £150   Edn Qty. = 125

PL04 ST IVES, HOMAGE TO ALFRED WALLIS.

PL04 - ST IVES, HOMAGE TO ALFRED WALLIS.

ST IVES, HOMAGE TO ALFRED WALLIS. Saint Ives owes much to Alfred Wallis, the ‘primitive’ painter who was a native of the town, so I have tried to show the irony of his tiny cottage being tucked away at the back of the Tate Saint Ives building. A photograph of Alfred hangs in my studio. The terra-cotta colour ink is the same as was used by Stanley Jones at the Curwen Studio for images by Elizabeth Frink

PL05 MORFA HARLECH

PL05 - MORFA HARLECH

MORFA HARLECH is an impressive stretch of beach on the west coast of mid- Wales. The image shows ‘The Three Rivals’ at the top left, the Snowdon range at top right, whilst the two shapes at bottom right represent Cader Idris and Tyn y Llan. This stretch of coast, on Cardigan Bay, is particularly beautiful. It becomes increasingly dramatic, the further north one travels. The image combines the sea, the sand, the land and the mountains.
