Bed and Breakfast in Battle, East Sussex
FOUR STAR B&B.
Once we have sorted out the arrival admin, and given you a key, you can come and go through the garden, which leads out to our private car parking area, just off the main car park. The B&B suite is off to the left, most of it out of picture. What you see is the outside of the staircase leading to it. It was once the storage to a medieval merchant's warehouse, so it has lots of history. The house is descibed as, 'being with the upper stories timber framed, in part peg-tile hung, and in part clapperboard or weatherboard clad.' Much of the cladding was renewed in 2008, with insulation added between the studwork. The property is grade 2 listed.
Bed and Breakfast Suite now available
We are pleased to be able to offer our Bed and Breakfast Suite in our self-contained annex above the rear of the gallery. Outlooks from the landing are across Battle Great Woods, only a short walk away. Shops, Restaurants, and the famous Battle Abbey are less than a ten minute stroll away. You have your own key to come and go as you please.
Sitting Room
The first rule is 'watch your head!' the tie beam (just at the top right hand edge of the picture), is quite low. The sitting area is about fourteen foot square, so its plenty big enough to stretch out and enjoy some quite time reading from the library of books (lots on art) that stretches out onto the landing. As you can see, there are many of Stan's pictures on the wall, and you will be offered reasonable discount if you want to make a purchase while you are here, or even later.
TV and Music area
A lovely room to sit and relax in, with many movies to watch, music to listen to and an art-lovers library. Its a very useful room, with space to stretch out if the weather is not good for outdoor pursuits. The tv is digital and Freeveiw channels are available , and the Hi-Fi- gives very reasonable play-back quality. This is the room you enter by when you come to stay. The landing is just through the door.
bedroom
Recently refurbished, a luxery double bed, we provide linen, towels and bathrobes. The mattress is 4' 6" wide, but as you can see, the room is smallish. This was a decision we made in order to provide a larger sitting room than would have otherwise been the case. As you can see, any spare space tends to be taken up by books.
ensuite bathroom
A bath,wc and basin, not shower I'm afraid, because of the peculiarities of the plumbing. The taps are new, and are quarter turn, which are a boon if you or your companion have arthritis or similar problems. There are some pretty mirrors (and model sailing boats), but other than that, what you see is what you get!
kitchen area
We offer a full continental breakfast, left for you in the fridge and kitchen area, so that you can eat at your own convenience. There is a fridge, a microwave and a toaster. If you let us know when you are going out, we will collect your crockery and cutlery if you wish, and wash and replace them. There are some good take-aways in the immediate vicinity, and the'cook' shop is just across the road. The food is top class, and you finish cooking it in the microwave.
Boring Stuff
Sorry, but we cannot allow pets or smoking, but of course, you can bring your own food if you do not want to buy locally. The tarrif is £75 for one night for two people (or £70 per night if you book for three consecutive nights or more. For a third person (sleeping on the futon, it is £20 per night, or a child in a cot is free. We are aware that at first glance, this seems somewhat expensive for a B & B, but are are sure you will appreciate the extra facilities and freedom you get compared with a normal B & B.
Dining/writing area
This view shows the farmhouse style kitchen/dining table, also ideal if you are an aspiring writer or artist/illustrator. Considering that we are virtually in the heart of Battle, the B & B Suite is very quiet and peaceful (the secondary double glazing helps) The wall-mounted heaters are fully adjustable, and the sitting room is a nice warm room. There is also a futon chair/sofa bed in the sitting room, which does not show in the pictures.
